A welcome return for Freddie Gavita following his outstanding East Side debut a year ago. Tonight he pairs with pianist extraordinaire Jim Watson, a formidable musician who can always be relied upon to start a fire. Trumpeter, composer, arranger and teacher, Freddie is clearly a young man with a growing reputation. Originally from Norwich, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music. He won the 2008 British Jazz Award for Rising Star and plays regularly with the John Dankworth Orchestra, the Ronnie Scott's Big Band, Empirical, the Ronnie Scott's All-Stars, the London Jazz Orchestra, the Andy Panayi Big Band, and was recently a featured soloist with the BBC Big Band on Radio 2. He now has his own big band, a joint project with Calum Gourlay. “... a talented trumpet prodigy" - John Walters, Guardian. "clearly one to watch" - Ivan Hewett, Daily Telegraph. "...showing a boldly independent streak" - John Fordham, Guardian.
